RD: Please tell us a little bit about yourself.
I love learning! I study French, Botanical Illustration, Painting (watercolor, acrylic, oil), Calligraphy, bookmaking, ceramics, paper making and marbling, and drawing, I love to send and receive mail art and handwritten letters in which I like to embellish with artwork. I collect and use fountain pens and I love art supplies.
RD: How and when did you first discover Rhodia products?
JF: I first discovered Rhodia through a discussion with fountain pen geek people.
RD: Which are your favorite Rhodia products?
JF: I like all of the Rhodia papers, but the ones I use most are the lined tablets. I like the ivory paper as well as the ice. I use the 2.9 x 4.1 grid pad for recording ink samples I get from Goulet Pens. I use the beautiful webnotebook with 90g ivory paper for my quote book It is sheer pleasure to write in it. I have over 100 pages of quotes I have been collecting since 1980.
RD: Do you always use the same product(s) or do you change periodically?
JF: Currently I am out of the 5 x 7 pads, but I have used up many of them. I like that size for letters but the larger lined pad works well too.
RD: Do you use them in any way that is specific to your work?
JF: I am an avid hand letter writer and I mainly use fountain pens. The ink I use doesn’t bleed on Rhodia paper. I love it! I also do small art work in my letters and the paper works fantastic with watercolor, marker, ink, and color pencil. I am teaching pointed pen and require all of my students to use Rhodia pad # 18!
RD: Pencil, pen, or other? Favorites?
JF: My favorite pencils are Tombow for graphite and Prismacolor and Faber Castell for regular colored pencils. Faber Castell Albrecht Dürer watercolor pencils are my favorite right now. I have many favorite pens. I like the Pilot Vanishing point, the Pilot Namiki Falcon, the Twisbi echo, the Lamy Joy and Lamy Safari.
RD: Where do you regularly purchase Rhodia products?
JF: I purchase Rhodia products at Tabula Rasa in Salt Lake and Dick Blick in Sugarhouse in Utah.
RD: Is there any way we could improve on your favorite product?
JF: For an improvement, I would like a little narrower lines as a choice as well as a landscape lined pad.
