Books for the Summer: What are You Reading?

I’m not exactly sure what kind of book makes for a good “Summer Read” but in typical Steph Smith form, I just finished one book, Mr. Mercedes, (despite my love for Mr. King, don’t waste your time with this one) and am currently reading at least half a dozen others including, “What are you looking at?” shown above, and “I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings” by Maya Angelou.

What books are either in your summer beach bag, or are loaded & ready to go on your e-reader? And how did you choose them? Do you go by the bestseller lists or online reviews? Recommendations from a friend?

  1. Am reading Shoot Me by Lesley Crewes…chosen because it takes place in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and I am moving there in less than a month. Laugh out loud funny in parts.

    Just finished a Louise Penny mystery…again, a Canada thing…

Have waiting for me How Lincoln Learned to Read by Daniel Wolf (nonfiction…heard about it on NPR and it sounded like something I’d like), The House of Outrageous Fortune by Michael Gross (non Fiction–read two others by him and liked them…reading his books reminds me of two friends who took me to a casino in Louisiana as a Sociological Experience…to watch others, learn about a side of human nature/humanity you might not otherwise observe, notice), and The Prime Minister’s Secret Agent by Susan Macneal (I’m a sucker for WWII era mysteries that take place in England)

  2. I just finished “A Thing of Beauty” by Stephen Fried. It’s a biography of the 80’s supermodel, Gia. I finished it in about 24 hours. A very good read. Next up is The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.
