A Daily Tweet

From 1986-1996, I worked in a local camera shop. It was my first full-time job and at 16, I had neither retail experience nor any interest in photography. But hey, a job’s a job. I started when film cameras were just starting to have fully automatic options. (Think Canon AE-1 Program and Minolta X-700) Focusing was still a manual function and older customers would blow up my brain talking about light meters and manual flash settings.

Photography has changed a TON since 1986 but all I know is that I am finally able to take good pictures of the birds at my feeder with minimal effort. I think I started birdwatching around 1991 and it’s a hobby that’s always made me happy. This past week we bought a bag of the “good” bird food and also a bag of woodpecker food – which in my experience, has the woodpeckers (and squirrels) showing up almost immediately. In just the past week I’ve seen cardinals, doves, juncos, house sparrows, house finches, chickadees, nuthatches, downy woodpeckers, red bellied woodpeckers, titmice, and a goldfinch at our feeders.

You know my anniversary giveaway that’s still going on? That dotWebbie would be great for keeping track of the birds at your feeder or the ones you see on your daily walks. (I recommend Peterson’s Field Guides for  bird identification and a nice bright pair of binoculars.)
