How many notebooks do you carry around?

Karen

I carry around three:  a ratty, beat-up No. 12 Rhodia in the inside pocket of my Mills canvas tote.  This is for jotting down ideas and contact information. I also carry a 6 x 8 Clairefontaine spiral. This one is the most comfortable for taking notes and making lists while I’m riding the Hampton Jitney.  Finally, my pocket planner is used as a “daily notebook”  with milestones, priorities, tasks and personal information.  All three notebooks are important, and thinking about this post I realized I use all three for different uses. I also have a notebook in the car to do my food shopping list!

  1. Let’s see… 1) Moleskine for taking notes @ church, 2) a little Quo Vadis for my “Gift List”, 3) another little red Quo Vadis for a dream journal, 4) a mid-size Moleskine for my Gratitude List, 5) a Markings journal for my daily dump, it’s the one that goes with me everywhere, for the most part… I may have forgotten 1 or 2…

  3. Mostly everyday: Leuchtturm 8×5 daily planner for business.
Mostly always: 6×3 looseleaf binder for my business and personal project notes.
Always, even on my bike: Pocket size with Quiver and 2 Sheaffers for personal notes and doodles.
Often: 8×5 molie for my video and photography storyboards.

The large Leuchtturm and 6-ring binder combination replace my Franklin which I used for 20 years. After only a two weeks, I can see trouble ahead but I’m committed to experimenting for 6 months.

  5. I carry four every day:
1 – My journal, a large no-name thing I got at Borders a long time ago but only recently took off the shelf to use.
2 – Three of the little Moleskine 3×5 cahiers, which are my “anything I need to note” utility pads.

At the moment, tho, I have two others in my pack – a Markings 5×8 that I use for medical information and a cheapo Mead Five-Star composition book that I’m using to keep track of stuff as I go thru the process of preparing my parents for a move to some kind of assisted-living arrangement.
