How much space do you need?

Stephanie

If you use a lined journal, how important is the width of the line spacing to you? Do you prefer it to be a certain size?  Before I gave up lines for the blank page, I wanted my lines to be about 5mm apart. Less than that and I’d write big anyway, obscuring the lines & making a mess of things. Larger than 5mm and I felt lost and like I was wasting paper.

  1. I like a 5 or 6. I tend to skip lines but that’s only because I got into the habit in college when writing papers and taking notes so that I could make corrections or add to it.

  3. 5 mm all the way. Anything bigger makes me feel like I am in pre-school writing on those papers where the lines are like 1 inch apart.

  5. I find that amazing, B Irwin — those heavy nibs on 5-6mm paper!!

Would love to see a scan of someone’s (Stephanie??) journal entry using this kind of combo — maybe it would help me see what I need to do to improve my writing so I could use the heavier nibs without everything turning into blobs…

  7. B,BB, Stub 1.3mm, and OBB lover. 5-6 is good for me. Any smaller, the writing is just a blob. Any larger and I start wandering between the lines and it sprawls.

  9. I’d prefer 8 mm (⅓ inch) since I typically write with stubs and cursive italics in the 1 – 1¼ mm range.
