Speaking of inks, what is your favorite color?

As I had mentioned in a recent post, I have at least 10 fountain pens inked up at any given time- each with a different color. When I bought my first fountain pen, (a red Lamy Safari 2 years ago) I only wanted to use one color- black. Having mostly used ballpoint pens in blue or black ink for the majority of my life, I had a hard time understanding why anyone would want to write in pink, or orange, or turquoise. Then after having the opportunity to test over 100 different color inks over the past year, I totally get it. Some of these colors are just plain fun and I enjoy matching the color to my mood. I still like writing with black ink, (Herbin’s Perle Noire in my vintage Parker 51) but I also enjoy using red, purple, deep wine colors, and the occasional bright blue as the urge strikes.

On the rare occasions I’m not using a fountain pen, I have a small collection of Uniball Signo rollerballs in black, red, orange, blue and an awesome blue-black that my web friend Gentian sent me.

So tell me, what is your favorite ink color? Do you mostly use just one, or do you enjoy using a variety of colors?

  1. I have not seen any comment on Iroshizuku inks. Yes, they are expensive, yes they are wonderful. My favorite is tsukushi,a walnut brown. Also like sailor nano black and waterman florida blue. Not willing to limit my choices.

  3. It’s turquoise-color inks for me! :) J. Herbin Bleu Pervenche, Diamine Turquoise, Waterman South Sea Blue. At times, I love to add variety to my journal entries and my organizer details, and I use orange and red inks, J. Herbin Orange Indien, Rouge Opera or Camel Scarlet Red. :)
